The Golden Days Of Radio

From 2009 GDOR 60th Anniversary

Ozzie and Harriet - Take Me Out To The Ball Game 4/18/52

Airtimes for The Golden Days Of Radio

The Golden Age of Radio

first, the last chapter of “Not to Be Sneezed At”
on THE AVENGERS from Springbok Radio in South
Africa 1972. John Steed and Emma Peel wrap up this
medical mystery in chapter 7.

Next, from 1939, chapter 117 of THE SHADOW
OF FU MANCHU. Fu displays unusual generosity
on the occasion of Inspector Grebble's wedding.
Since this sounds like the last chapter of the
story line, we'll hold off the zombie plot
until next week.

Next, a light-hearted comedy mystery from
MURDER BY EXPERTS with John Dickson Carr
hosting guest expert Craig Rice, who selects
the Joseph Ruscoll story “The Case of the
Missing Mind”, a Kenny Angle mystery. Other
stories featuring this character were heard
on THE MOLLE MYSTERY THEATER. This was
a holiday offering from Mutual on Dec 26, 1949.

I've been on vacation this week and didn't
do a damn thing but stay home, quite unlike
the folks on this episode of THE CBS RADIO
WORKSHOP, #80 from August 11, 1957.
It's the story of a Hawaiian vacation called
“Malihini Magic” with Jack Kruschen, Ben Wright,
Joe DeSantis, Lillian Buyeff, Lurene Tuttle,
and Virginia Gregg, produced by William N Robson,
written and directed by Sam Pierce.

The Andersons have planned a Father's Day
celebration, but Jim just wants to go fishing!
From NBC, it's FATHER KNOWS BEST #42 from
June 15, 1950. Starring Robert Young, Jean
Vander Pyl, Norma Jean Nilsson, June Whitley,
Rhoda Williams, Ted Donaldson, Eleanor Audley,
Herb Vigran, and Sam Edwards, with Bill Forman
announcing.

Airtimes for The Golden Age of Radio

The Golden Age of Radio W1

Kenny “Angles” Andrews returns from last
week's show, along with a SUSPENSE
episode from the same writer, Joseph
Ruscoll, starring Edward G Robinson, and
new serials from THE AVENGERS and FU
MANCHU, June 27 at 11am.

We'll start with the first two chapters
of “Who Shot Poor George XR40?” on THE
AVENGERS from Springbok Radio in South
Africa 1972. John Steed and Emma Peel
tackle a computer assassin!

Next, from 1939, chapters 120-121 of
THE SHADOW OF FU MANCHU. This seems
to be adapted from THE DRUMS OF
FU MANCHU. Fu has a television
transmitter, a secret super-weapon,
and zombies! Dr Osaki dies from
“The Green Death!”

Last week we heard a character named
Kenny “Angles” Andrews on MURDER BY
EXPERTS. That story was first adapted
on THE MOLLE MYSTERY THEATER on
March 15, 1946, and was so popular that
they brought him back a few times. From
May 10, 1946 “The Further Adventures of
Kenny Andrews”. As you may recall, we
last saw Kenny in an asylum. Today we
hear what happens next! Next week we'll
hear the third of the Kenny Angle shows.
With Carl Eastman, Bernard Lenrow stars as
host "Geoffrey Barnes", Dan Seymour, announcer.

The Kenny Andrews stories were written by
Joseph Ruscoll, and we'll wrap things up
with another of his stories, starring Edward
G Robinson on SUSPENSE from CBS on March 31,
1949. A man is reported dead and hides out so
his wife can collect the insurance.
