Frank presents a Red Ryder Special.
2 shows plus a proposed 15 minute serial audition that was never broadcasted.
Then a 3rd anniversary of the show with the cast doing a funny spoof of the show.

Mail Call - Laurel and Hardy

Airtimes for The Golden Days Of Radio

The Golden Age of Radio

#352 GOLDEN AGE OF RADIO - PETER LORRE
is the featured performer in our second
hour right after our regular features of
BUCK ROGERS and THE AVENGERS.

BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY
Chapters 1 & 2 of “The Mechanical Mole”
Some genius has dated these May 03 and
05, 1939, but it can't be right because
the story line is not consistent with
the shows from last week – it's a new
storyline. Dr Heuer is experimenting with
a new device to explore INNER SPACE by
burrowing into the earth with his new toy.
“It's made of Flexo-Impervium, Wilma!”
Buck is missing in action this week, and I
have no idea if this story has a conclusion,
so stay tuned!

Next, a new serial from THE AVENGERS from
South Africa 1972. “The Quick, Quick,
Slow Death”. Custom shoes for a dance
troupe and a tattooed dead man lead Mrs.
Peel and Steed to a new case.

I read about some shows featuring PETER
LORRE on the Old Time Radio Lovers Facebook
page, and figured that if I wanted to hear
them, you might too, so here they are.

Lorre is the guest star on BOB HOPE's
program from May 13, 1947. They perform
a parody of THE INNER SANTUM.

From a brief summer series starring Lorre
with Harry (not Henry) Morgan announcing,
we will hear the Guy DeMaupassant story
“The Horla”about an invisible creature that
torments our hero. It's MYSTERY IN THE AIR
#8 from August, 21 1947.

Airtimes for The Golden Age of Radio

The Golden Age of Radio W1

An hour of Brooklyn working girls (not
THAT kind!)with Audrey Totter in MEET
MILLIE and Ann Southern as MAISIE,
after our morning serials.

BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY
Chapters 3 & 4 of “The Mechanical
Mole” from 1939 or so. Buck and
Wilma continue to test Dr Heuer’s
latest invention – a mechanical mole
that they hope will  burrow to the
center of the earth! The Thermic
Radiation Projector melts the earth
for the mole to travel through, but
look out for those gas pockets!!

“It looks like a giant metal sausage!”
“It's made of Flexo-Impervium, Wilma!”

Next, THE AVENGERS from South Africa
in 1972. “The Quick, Quick, Slow Death”
Chapters 3 and 4. Mrs. Peel goes undercover
as a dance instructor, and Steed tries not
to step on any toes. Meanwhile a man is
murdered while tattooing a sausage! I
wonder if it’s made of Flexo-Impervium.

Next, two independent working girls
from Brooklyn. Audrey Totter plays
Millie Bronson, a secretary who is
smitten with her boss’s son, and
who lives with her mother (Bea
Benaderet). Marvin Kaplan is Alfred
Prinzmetal, their eccentric friend,
a poet and dreamer. The show premiered
on radio in the summer of 1951 and
quickly went to television, but with a
different cast. After Totter left the
show, the TV cast took over on the radio
show as well, until 1954. The TV show
lasted a bit longer. Today, show #16
from the AFRS–the Bronsons are about to
lose their apartment in the middle of
a housing shortage!

THE ADVENTURES OF MAISIE starring
Ann Southern, a radio show based on
the MGM movie series. Actually there
were two shows, first on CBS for two
years, then syndicated for four more
years. Maisie Ravier was a showgirl
who takes on new jobs every week,
from truck driver to hotel clerk.
Today we sacrifice a bit of sound
quality for a special guest star,
Gene Kelly, as Bill Jones, a soldier
on leave and on the prowl for Maisie.
It’s #31, from June 22, 1950.
