Michael S.E. Hoskin - Calgary,Alberta, Canada

I'm only 20 years old, but I love OTR! I've been a fan for
the past 7 years, a listener of YUSA for the past year, and I have a collection of over 150 radio shows! To me, Suspense, Inner Sanctum & The Shadow will always be important for introducing me to OTR but when I grew to like Jack Benny, Stan Freberg, Bob & Ray, Duffy's Tavern, Lux Radio Theater, Johnny Dollar and the Mercury Theater I became a true OTR fanatic! I hope YUSA enjoys a long life and that I can be here to enjoy it with them!

I'm so glad I've finally found a place to listen to old time radio all the time. I'm only 17 so I've never heard it except on tapes. I've got about twelve tapes of radio shows, mostly Burns and Allen and Jack Benny. Thanks for doing such a great job. Keep it up!

Your page was referenced in an article "Killing the Book, But Reviving Old-Time Radio" in the 8/29/98 issue of World Magazine. Couldn't resist checking out your site.
Occasionally, when traveling, I'll come across an AM station that is broadcasting OTR and spend an hour or so with them, remembering good times with the family many years ago. Thanks for what you are doing. I'm going to try to get our local cable company to subscribe to OTR.

Delightful! Brings back fond memories of life before the tube (TV that is). Three generations of the family sitting on the front porch, eating home-made icecream, listening to those creative shows on the Stromberg-Carlson radio. Ironic that modern technology has revived what was in it's own time a victim of advancing technology.

Outstanding! You have our full support!

Our daily, The Oregonian, had an article about radio on the Internet (August 11, 1998) which led me to this wonderful old-time radio site. I have a contribution to Bill Bragg's museum: my 1976 book, I Love Radio by Shel Gloger, a guidebook to 50 radio stations in the San Francisco area with the logos of all the stations and articles about the history of USA radio. Does the museum have a copy? Let me know, please. If you don't, I'll send a copy. Since then, I've been publishing books on other subjects because, my first love, radio, doesn't sell enough in book form. My latest is called Jesus Mishegahs: The Jewish Xmas Book, by Yoesh Gloger. (Controversial religious subjects for books sell very well. Go figure. Life isn't fair.) My old radio fans may wish to see how my graphics and other book-making stuff have developed since the radio book. Take a look at that book's homesite: (www.bookzone.com/topshelf/jesusm.html)

Not Quite So Easy to Fool - USA

    OK, Bill--

I don't know how you spend your weekends, but I DO know one thing for sure--that address you gave out over the air tonight does NOT belong to the White House!

Mail.com is a web-based E-mail service. ANYONE can give themselves the name "thewhitehouse@mail.com" as long as someone else hasn't already taken it! I could call myself "presidentclinton@mail.com" if I wanted to.

Besides, anyone that knows ANYTHING about the internet knows that all the government domain names in Washington, DC end with "gov"

So don't any of you listeners out there believe a WORD of it! It ain't even April Fool's Day and he tries to pull something like this----Geeeeeeze!

Enjoy you programming. I am able to pick up your broadcast in my car radio at 107.3 FM, but only at certain locations on clear nights. Do you have any closer broadcast locations to the Harrisburg area?

I like your program. I'm old at radio, but new at computers, and I get a lot of interupted sound and a rebuffering message. Hopefully, I'll soon find out what to do about that. Perhaps I downloaded realaudio wrong.
Anyhow, I'm a real pleased listener anyhow.

    Greetings everyone--
Great to see "Yet another friend of Scott Becker's" message. It is good to know that there are at least two of them. We can all use as many as we can get. Let's see Bill Bragg has a million friends and then there are two ... hmmm..interesting comparison there.
Let me also say that it is good that even people that don't like Bill Bragg just can't help but listen to him. That speaks volumes. Personally, if I don't like someone I sure don't waste my time listening to them. But he is entertaining isn't he?
I'd like to say that I don't speak for Bill in any official (or unofficial for that matter) capacity. He is more than capable to do that for himself if he wishes but frankly folks he is too busy moving the station into the future and entertaining all of us happy listeners (and not making a DIME off of it...can Scott Becker admit to THAT?) Personally, I'd love to know how much (if anything) Scott was being paid to set up that little shortwave operation done in the Caribbean? Care to fill us in on that "Friend"?
I wouldn't hold your breath re: Bill asking your friend to appear as a guest on this next Sunday Live show or any live show because that's all stale water under the dam. We won the battle (or hadn't you noticed?) so we're moving on.
True Bill and Scott had their falling out unfortunately that is irrelevant to what Scott did AFTER that: in particular the stealing of our domain name.

Personally I am VERY thankful and appreciative that Scott showed Bill the importance of the Internet. I believe Bill reaches millions (no...billions more people on the Net than he could ever have reached via shortwave) so THANKS SCOTT!! I'll even send you a "I Love Bill Bragg" T-shirt if you like. Unfortunately some people don't realize that all of us that do good things for YUSA do so as VOLUNTEERS. That means we don't get PAID and we don't retain any hold over whatever we do for the station. If you expect that then you're in the wrong place. This might be a fine point but it is a crucial point. Whatever Scott did for the station he had to do voluntarily and thus all ownership became that of the station (and Bill Bragg indirectly since Bill really IS the station). We listeners may come and go but the true heart of the station is Bill.
Therefore it doesn't matter who signed their name when the domain site was created it was done for the station and thus was owned by Mr. Bragg. It's a shame Scott didn't realize this in the first place. Perhaps he could have saved himself a lot of grief and legal costs.
This is the last word I am going to write on this topic because I doubt it will sway any of Mr. Becker's friends but frankly I have to go listen to some Jack Benny now!
Thanks Bill Bragg for putting this station on the Internet where I can listen to it everyday!

My father was an orchestra leader of a small 7 piece band in Detroit in the 30's. 40's & 50's. I grew up in 'Big Band' era. Your music & radio shows are really memory burners. I play a keyboard with oldies for nursing homes. Patients with altzheimers are totally receptive to the old music. Thanks

Yet ANOTHER friend of Mr. Becker - USA

I heard about that "big surprise" you had a few weeks ago. I've been reading all the comments from your loyal listeners, and just had to put in my 2 cents worth.

The only thing your listeners know about the domain dispute is one side of the story--YOUR SIDE. And from what I've heard, you make Scott out to be the most underhanded, crooked, evil, bad guy that ever came through Dodge City (or Richardson Texas, as the case may be). Come on, Bill--NOBODY could be THAT awful!

In the past few months, I've never once heard you talk about all the work Scott did for you and your organization to help you get your web site running--back before you guys had that big Texas-size falling out last fall.

So here's a challage for you Bill. And it's really a big one. Why don't you invite Scott to be on your Sunday night show and let him tell his side of this dispute and how it all got started? Or are you afraid to let listeners hear all the details of what REALLY happened?

Remember Yesterday USA listeners, just because you can get a judge to rule on you side doesn't necessarily mean you're right!

    I just found this site. I love it. I was born in 1942 and when I was just old enough to appreciate what a gem old radio was, it quickly gave way to the new and exciting medium of TV(bah humbug)I remember sitting in front of the old cathedral style RCA and listening to such shows as, The Shadow, Gang Busters, Fibber Magee and Molly, The Great Gildersleeve, etc. I'm so glad there is a place where I can hear those old shows again. I have an old Philco model 38, that still works. Thank You;
    Carl

To All Friends of Mr. Becker-
Rest assured no one at YUSA has any free time to waste sending out any "hate mail" to any of you out there. And I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to come and enjoy this web site. We do not discriminate anyone. But PLEASE don't insult our intelligences by trying to make your friend out as the one wronged in this affair. He knew exactly what he was doing and that those actions would hurt the station. This has been proven by a court of law (of course this isn't the first time the law has come down against your friend, now is it?).
But let's put all that behind us and enjoy the great shows that we all love.

Homepage : Remember: there is NO black and white--only gray areas

    Hey there Bill--

I see that you (or one of your associates) didn't have the courage to leave my other message up on your page. Don't you believe in the free exchange of ideas? That's an American value too, ya know!

Sure--I could post my real name up--but why should I subject myself to all kinds of hate mail from your devoted listeners that for some unknown reason think Bill Bragg is so perfect that he could do no wrong.

I like old-time radio and TV as much as anyone, but the world of "good guys" that wear white hats and "bad guys" that always wear black and do nothing but evil is pure Hollywood fiction. NO ONE is totally good or bad. And there are two sides to EVERY story--even THIS one!

    Think about it, folks!

    Hi Bill-
Wanted to throw my two cents worth into this "discussion" because I love this station and can't stand hearing it put down (don't much care for people stomping on the flag either).

To the concerned woman who feels Bill is inappropriately using "Bigbird"'s name rest assured Bill Bragg would not hesitate to give (note the word GIVE) that domain name up freely if any of the people who sincerely had a hand in creating Sesame Street (Children's Television Workshop or Jim Henson's Organization, etc.) were to ask him for it. He is an honorable man. He isn't trying to make a buck from the name of Bigbird. Wish I could say the same about certain other folks. End of discussion.

Thanks Bill for letting me get that off my chest.

P.S. I'm glad YUSA caters to the great old-time radio and isn't wall-to-wall music. If it's music shows you want I guess you'll just have to look elsewhere. Try one of those "toy" satellite dish networks. We rule the Internet!
